After months of preparation, essay writing, and stress, it is finally time for me to send a rejection letter to a school. Here are my criteria which I used:
I was thrilled to get into Georgetown because it was my first acceptance and gave me a piece of mind. However, when I visited for my interview, it didn't quite fit. I didn't feel a connection with the students and my interview experience was so-so. I continue to worry about my career prospects on the West Coast and especially in the Northwest with a degree from Georgetown. Also, Georgetown did not offer me any money and their starting salary is not that much higher than UW, but the cost to attend UW is significantly lower because I'm an in-state resident.
When I started looking into schools last summer and fall, I did not expect to love Foster as much as I did. However, if what people say about "fit" is true, then Foster is a great choice for me. It has a small class, various mentorship programs, opportunities to travel abroad for more than just a week, in state tuition and location where my boyfriend is. Also the people I met were all so enthusiastic about UDUB that it was contagious. While Georgetown is probably 10th or 15th best school on the East Coast, UDUB is clearly in the top 5 on the West Coast and since I plan to be on the West Coast long term, job opportunities will be better for me with a UDUB degree than a Georgetown degree.
All these reasons combined, I will be declining Georgetown's offer today.
Of course, still keeping my fingers crossed for Stanford, but Foster will be a great place to be if that's where I end up.
Your reasoning sounds very logical and should stand you in good stead at Foster. All the best for Stanford !

Fingers crossed for Stanford, but in the meanwhile congratulations on making a well-reasoned choice! (My friends at Georgetown can never stop talking about how oppressive the debt is.)
